My first memories are of Kindergarten. In one instance, Ms. Appel gave a homework assignment, to make up some cattle brands, such as "Bar X" and "Rocking Y". I misunderstood the assignment, I found out the next day. I had made up brands based on the sound of the words. Those were my first "poems", and I have been writing ever since. Another memory I have is of going to visit Mr. Zaro, who was a school specialist who asked me some very advanced questions, such as, "If I travel half the distance to someplace every step, will I ever get there?" (Most kindergartners would say Yes.) Since I skipped Fourth Grade, I was one of the youngest students to have access to the first computer in Marin County, through a special program between my Junior High School and College of Marin. In three years of High School, (grades 10, 11, 12) I took six years of English, including staffing then Editor for the literary magazine. In high school, then college, I spent five summers as day and overnight camp counselor, one as an art specialist. At UC Davis (1981-1986) I was developing a custom major in the Department of Organizational Development called, "Applying Cooperative Principles to Education". In 1986 I traveled and visited intentional communities, and also worked caring for a family's two children. In 1987, I had my first child, my son Daniel, who was born in water. During and since that time I have been studying "complementary medicine", or more precisely, "extraordinary healing tools and techniques". In 1992, I focused that specialty to studying vortexes and earth energies, and published two "Vortex Maps". Since then I have published the Vortex Field Guide. I have appeared on various radio and television shows, and before live audiences across the US and in Europe. In 2001 I completed a B.S. in Geography with a  minor in Communication. I have coached soccer teams, taught after-school classes, and presented my Map Art Exhibit at schools throughout the Rogue Valley. During my time at S.O.U., I was active on the student body, worked for the University both in the Library Technology Center and as a tutor. I also held the position of Director of the Non-Traditional Student Center  (for older, commuting, working students). As my senior project, I helped produce the Bear Creek Watershed Map.
I have produced and crewed television shows for Rogue Valley community access Television.
My first published article was an interview with Peter Berg, who coined the term "bioregion". Since then my articles on a variety of topics, from politics to metaphysics have been published in local and national periodicals.
His Map Art Exhibit, "Find Yourself on a River" displayed at the Ashland Public Library, includes geography questions and a lesson plan for visiting school classes and the public.
Dan is available forpublic speaking engagements, workshops, and vortex gridwork.
